The Maremma’s foremost island is a haven of relaxation and amazing beaches. With a very short ferry ride from Porto Santo Stefano, you can experience as close to paradise as you can get in country Tuscany. Giglio Island is divided into three areas: Giglio Porto, the port town where you get off the ferry and the best place to stroll and admire cute boutiques and seafood restaurants; Giglio Castello, the heart of the island and officially one of Italy’s most beautiful villages, the spot where you can explore a medieval castle and its sandstone houses; and Giglio Campese, where you can relax on the island’s best beaches and seaside bars. If you’re looking for something a little more secluded, consider renting a scooter or hiring a taxi in Giglio Porto to explore the hidden beaches around the islands. Otherwise there is a regular bus service that connects Giglio Porto, Giglio Castello and Giglio Campese for easy exploring.
